A LITTLE SETUP. A CLEARER DESKTOP.

Make room for
your little meter.

Bring the login you already use. Choose a corner and a theme. Here’s what the widget needs to find your allowance.

AI Meter is not yet available for purchase or download. This website does not sign in to any provider. These instructions explain the current integrations and help people who already have a testing build.

01 / BRING YOUR EXISTING LOGIN

Start with one provider.

Claude, Codex, or both. The meter reads usage from your own provider login; it does not include an AI subscription.

For Claude

You need a paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. Free accounts don’t report usage, so the widget shows a “needs a paid plan” note instead.

If you use Claude Code on this computer, the widget finds its login automatically. If you only use Claude Desktop or claude.ai, right-click the widget and choose Claude account → Connect Claude account…, then sign in to Claude in the window that opens. Usage is shared across Claude Desktop, the website and Claude Code, so either way shows the same numbers.

Official Claude Code setup

For Codex

Use Sign in with ChatGPT in a supported Codex installation. API-key-only logins do not expose the subscription limits this widget reads.

The Codex row shows the reported Codex/Work allowance, not every ordinary ChatGPT chat or model limit. Missing limits are shown as unavailable.

Official OpenAI sign-in guide

Designed for Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64. Installer validation is still underway; final supported OS versions and download options will be confirmed with the public release. The installed widget itself does not require Node.js or Rust.

02 / MAC

A little place on your Mac.

  1. Prepare your provider login.

For Claude, sign in to Claude Code, or connect your Claude account from the widget after installing. For Codex, use a supported Codex/ChatGPT desktop installation in Applications and complete its ChatGPT sign-in. The widget looks for the bundled Codex executable in standard app locations. A native Codex CLI installation is another supported route.

  2. Install your testing build.

If you have an AI Meter DMG, open it and drag the app into Applications. Launch it from Applications. Quit any development copy first so you’re using one widget.

We’ll list the Apple Silicon and Intel downloads when public installers are ready.

  3. Look in the menu bar.

The widget runs as a menu bar app and does not show a Dock icon. Open its menu and choose Refresh now after signing in to a provider.

Claude asks for Keychain access

Claude Code can save its login in macOS Keychain. The installed widget may ask for access to that saved credential. Check that the request is from the AI Meter app you installed. If access is denied or Keychain is locked, the widget shows setup help. Unlock Keychain or allow the specific credential request if you choose, then refresh the widget.

03 / WINDOWS

At home on Windows.

  1. Use the same Windows account.

Install and open the widget under the Windows account where your provider login is available. For Claude Code, sign in there too. Without Claude Code, connect your Claude account from the widget menu.

  2. Set up Codex, if you use it.

Open the Codex desktop app and sign in with ChatGPT. The Windows desktop installation we tested connects without a separate CLI; other installation variants are still being checked. You can also use the native Windows Codex CLI: follow the official guide, then run codex login in PowerShell. A Codex installation only inside WSL is not used.

  3. Run your testing installer.

If you have a testing setup EXE, run it under your usual Windows account. It installs for that account. The installer can download Microsoft WebView2 if it is missing, so an internet connection may be needed.

  4. Find the tray icon and refresh.

Check the notification area near the clock, including hidden icons. Open the widget’s menu and choose Refresh now.

My Claude login is in WSL

The Claude integration can check credentials in running WSL distributions. It does not start stopped distributions. Open the distribution where you use Claude Code, sign in there, and refresh the widget. This support is specific to Claude; Codex needs the native Windows setup above.

04 / SETTLE IN

Your numbers.
Your kind of desktop.

Right-click a widget row, or use the menu bar/tray icon, to open the menu.

Choose your providers
Providers lets you show Claude only, Codex only, both, or automatic visibility. Automatic hides unavailable providers when another is ready.
Read it your way
Choose a theme and set Wording → Plain for what’s left and when it refills. Technical wording shows percentages used and countdowns.
Find a corner
Drag a row toward a screen edge. If the widget disappears after a display change, use Reset widget position.
Take a closer look
Hover a row for details. Forecasts need the widget’s own saved readings: at least three readings across 15 minutes for the short window and two hours for the long window.
Start when you do
Turn on Start at login on Mac or Start with Windows on Windows if you want the widget to appear after signing into your computer. This is optional.

A LITTLE HELP

Something missing?

The row says “no login”

For Claude, sign in to Claude Code on this computer, or choose Claude account → Connect Claude account… from the widget menu and sign in there. For Codex, use a ChatGPT-backed login in the supported local installation, then choose Refresh now. On Windows, check that the widget and login use the same Windows account.

My login expired or was rejected

For a Claude account connected in the widget, choose Claude account → Sign in again or switch account…. Otherwise open Claude Code or your supported Codex installation and follow its sign-in prompts; the provider handles login renewal. Refresh the widget afterward.

Claude says “needs a paid plan”

The connected Claude account is on the Free plan, which doesn’t report usage. If you also have a paid account, choose Claude account → Sign in again or switch account… and sign in with that one.

How do I choose or disconnect a Claude account?

Connect Claude account… selects the account you sign in to, even if Claude Code uses another account. To read Claude Code instead, choose Claude account → Use Claude Code login. Disconnect removes the widget’s claude.ai sign-in and pauses Claude readings until you connect again or choose the Code login. Claude Desktop, your browsers and Claude Code stay signed in.

The row needs setup or stays offline

Hover it for the specific setup message. Confirm the provider is installed, its login works, and your connection is available. On Mac, check for a pending Keychain request for Claude. On Windows, check the Codex desktop app or native CLI sign-in. Refresh afterward; custom installation locations may need additional setup.

Only one provider or usage window appears

Check the Providers menu first. Automatic visibility can hide a provider without a login when the other is ready, and always hides a provider that isn’t installed. Codex only shows usage windows its integration reports; an absent window is not proof of unlimited usage.

The trend says it needs more history

Leave the widget running as you work. It cannot recover usage history from before it started recording. Saved readings survive app restarts, but forecasts still need enough readings spread across the relevant warmup period.

Where do I report a testing issue?

Email support@useportledger.app; this mailbox also supports AI Meter. You can also use the channel where you received your testing build. Include your OS, app version, selected theme, what you expected and what happened just before the problem. A screenshot of the widget can help. Keep credentials, license keys and private account details out of reports. Please mention AI Meter in your subject line.

This guide covers the current testing build. Provider instructions were checked against the official guides on October 25, 2026. Integrations can change; public download, activation and support details will be updated before launch.
